Carpe Diem Indianapolis announces campus unification at Northwest location
INDIANAPOLIS—Carpe Diem, a nationally recognized charter school operator, will combine and unify its three Indianapolis locations at the school’s current Northwest location at 5435 West Pike Plaza Road.
The unification, which will take effect in the 2017-2018 school year, will allow the school to dedicate its full attention and resources to providing students with an outstanding educational experience and further developing community partnerships. The Carpe Diem Board of Directors tonight approved the action and also voted to voluntarily discontinue the school’s charter to operate its Shadeland campus.
“We look forward to welcoming our Meridian and Shadeland students at the new Carpe Diem Indianapolis campus, and we hope families who are still looking at schooling options for the 2017-2018 school year will consider our unique blended learning curriculum for their students,” said Carpe Diem founder Rick Ogston.
Ogston said the move will financially stabilize Carpe Diem’s Indianapolis presence, where ambitious expansion plans outpaced student enrollment. He also noted that charter schools in Indiana are limited by a funding model that favors traditional public schools.
A recent study by the University of Arkansas found that the average disparity in per-pupil funding between traditional public schools and their public charter school counterparts in metropolitan areas is $5,721, a gap of 29 percent. The study found that the gap in Indianapolis has grown by 1,148 percent since 2003.
Choose Smart. Choose Carpe Diem.
Carpe Diem Innovative School – Northwest is a free, public charter school educating students in grades 6 – 12 in a small and safe campus. We utilize a highly effective blended learning model combining a rigorous curriculum with classroom instruction led by highly effective teachers and individualized support from personal coaches. We educate with knowledge, equip with character and empower students for college, career and life.
Learning is a life-long endeavor and we believe students shouldn’t be constrained by the typical classroom or traditional learning models teaching just to average students. Students learn at their own pace and master material prior to moving on to the next level.
Students are met at their instructional level to build competency and confidence through hard work and encouragement. Each student receives an Individual Learning Plan to accelerate learning to maximize his or her full potential and meet career/educational goals.
Our school provides the necessary flexibility to foster growth and ensure success of every student. Business Week and U.S. News & World Report rated our schools among the best high school programs in the nation. Historically, Carpe Diem students average completion of two years of curriculum in just one school year.
